(CNN) -- A Venezuelan military aircraft crashed Wednesday, but the two-person flight crew parachuted to safety and there were no known fatalities, a civil protection official said.
The plane was on a routine training mission when it crashed in the state of Lara, in northwestern Venezuela, said the state's director for civil protection, Hector Vargas.
Authorities don't know the cause of the crash and are investigating, Vargas said in a broadcast by CNN affiliate Globovision TV.
The two crew members were taken to local hospitals, where they were in stable condition, Globovision said.
A photograph broadcast by Globovision showed only the aircraft's tail intact as firefighters worked at the scene of the charred wreckage.
